These indicators provide data on hand washing among hospital care providers, completion of a surgical safety checklist by surgical teams, C. difficile infections among hospital patients, and antibiotic-resistant bloodstream infections among hospital patients.
Washing hands with soap and running water or cleaning hands with antibacterial gel. A higher percentage is better. Results are based on audits using direct observation of hand hygiene practices. Some hospitals may also be using electronic monitoring of hand hygiene compliance.
This indicator measures the number of C. Difficile cases over the total number of days that all patients spent in-hospital for the reporting period. A lower rate is better and a lower number of cases is better.
Antibiotic-resistant bloodstream infections in hospital patients
This indicator measures the number of MRSA and VRE cases over the total number of days that all patients spent in-hospital for the reporting period. A lower rate is better and a lower number of cases is better.
